Print Areas | Options (Advanced) > Adding Print Effects

Overview

The general purpose of Print effects is for incidences when the print output needs to be visually different to the app preview.

So for instance, let’s say the personalised product you are creating is a tumbler or wine glass that you can add text to. In the preview you would want to give the impression that the text is etched onto the glass so you may use white or a colour very close to it to represent this. In the output however you may require the text to be black for production purposes. This is where print effects would come in.

Print effects analyse the colour and value of each pixel in the output image before applying pre-set adjustments according to the effect selected.

Accessing print effects

Edit the print area for the product that you wish to add a print effect to and expand the Advanced roll-out.

Click on the drop down beneath Print Effect and choose the effect to apply to the print output (see below)

This is a brief description as to what each print effect does along with an accompanying image to demonstrate it.

1. None

This is the default print effect option and will generate a standard Full Colour output.

If you require the output to be on a transparent background, please see the following article: https://support.custom-gateway.com/portal/kb/articles/print-areas-producing-artwork-with-a-transparent-background

2. Deboss

Adds a faux relief effect to the output to mimic debossing.

Note that there will be a slight shift in position in the output to accommodate the deboss effect.

3. Die Struck

Adds a faux relief effect to the output to mimic embossing.

Note that there will be a slight shift in position in the output to accommodate the die struck effect.

4. Embroidered

This is a very basic effect where a faux embroidery pattern is applied to the full colour output.

For genuine embroidery output we recommend the use of our full Wilcom embroidery system built into CPP.  For more information please see our dedicated Embroidery guide: https://support.custom-gateway.com/portal/kb/articles/custom-gateway-embroidery-guide

5. Etch on Glass

This is a faux etch on glass effect which turns the image greyscale and lightens the pixel values.

Please note that this effect was originally developed for app preview only and as such has limited efficacy as a print effect.

6. Laser (Dark)

A simple greyscale effect designed to simulate darker Laser etching.

7. Laser (Light)

A simple greyscale effect designed to simulate lighter Laser etching

8. Laser (Gold)

A simple gold overlay effect designed to simulate gold Laser etching

We recommended that the original image or text is greyscale for more desirable results (see below)

9. Laser (Oxidised)
A simple greyscale effect designed to simulate oxidised Laser etching

Please note that this effect was originally developed for app preview only and as such has limited efficacy as a print effect.

10. Sepia

Adds a sepia effect to the output image.

11. Blur

Adds a subtle blurring to the pixels of the output image.

12. High Contrast

Adds a high contrast effect to the output image based on the pixel values.

13. Invert

Inverts the colours of the pixels in the image

14. Edge

This effect is similar to Invert but only displays high contrast edges

15. Warm

Adds a warming overlay effect.

16. Cool

Adds a cooling overlay effect.

17. Terra

Adds an earthly overlay effect.

18. Single Colour

This effect will turn the image greyscale and then apply a coloured overlay effect to it.  This is often referred to as one-colour.

Once the effect has been selected, specify the hex of the colour that you wish to use for the overlay effect in the field provided.

19. Spot Colour

This effect will turn the image into a single colour with the exception of white or transparent pixels.

Once the effect has been selected, specify the hex of the colour that you wish to use for the spot colour in the field provided.

20. Spot Colour (legacy)

This is a legacy effect which should not be used.
